Conflict Studies and
Management Programme at the Willy Brandt School of
Public Policy in Erfurt Research Fellowships and
Scholarships for Doctoral and Master’s Students
The ‘Conflict Studies and Management Programme’ (CSMP)
is a new programme implemented by the ‘Willy Brandt
School of Public Policy’ in Erfurt (Brandt School) and
the ‘German Academic Exchange Service’ (DAAD). It is
addressed to Master’s students, doctoral students and
senior researchers with an interest in conflict
management in research and practise.
The Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the
University of Erfurt is one of the leading public policy
schools in Germany. Since 2002 the School’s Master’s
programme is committed to training talented students for
management and leadership positions mainly in the public
sector.
This special programme is intended for highly-qualified
foreign Master’s and doctoral students as well as senior
scientists. The CSMP fellowships offer outstanding
scientists and researchers the opportunity to conduct
research with a focus on application at the Willy Brandt
School of Public Policy in Erfurt, Germany. The fellows
will have a teaching commitment at the Brandt School of
generally 2 hours per week. Furthermore, the CSMP
scholarships offer excellent students the opportunity to
obtain a Master’s degree or a doctorate within a
specialised structured research and teaching programme.
Fellowship and Scholarship Types and Duration
Type A - Master Students Master’s Degree in Germany - 24
months (+6)
Type B - Doctoral Students Doctorate in Germany - 36
months (+6)
Type C - Senior Scientists Research in Germany - 6 to 24
months
Application Requirements
At the time of their application, applicants for CSMP
Fellowships or scholarships must
1. be able to prove their outstanding study or research
achievements,
2. Type A: have completed their studies with a
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Type B: have completed their studies or research with a
Master’s degree or equivalent
Type C: hold a doctorate/Ph.D., have proven research
experience of at least 2 years in a relevant field and
institution and be currently working in institutions of
higher education or at a research institute; positions
are open to outstandingly-qualified academics and
scientists.
3. have an excellent knowledge of English; please
provide evidence of this through the submission of
appropriate language certificates (e.g. TOEFL:
550/213/80); knowledge of German is advantageous, but
not required.
4. in general have completed their Bachelor’s or
Masters’ s degree in the last six years (Type A and B).
Applicants cannot be considered if they have been in
Germany for more than one year at the time of
application.

Center in Dushanbe.
The DAAD cannot consider incomplete applications.

Training: “Proposal Writing
for International Research Projects”
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) together
with the University of Bremen (Germany) and experts from
the Free Universities of Berlin (Germany) and the
University of Liverpool (United Kingdom) are organizing
a joint training course on
“Proposal Writing for International Research
Projects”,
First Part: 8th – 12th November 2010 in Tashkent,
Uzbekistan
Second Part: Spring 2011 in Uzbekistans
The course is part of the DIES (Dialogue on
Innovative Higher Education Strategies) series of DAAD
and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). The first part
will take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The aim of the training course is to enable younger PhD
holders (up to 45 years of age) to design, write, plan
and budget a promising research proposal according to
international standards.
Course methodology will require intensive active
participation and attendance from 09.00 to 18.00 hrs
each course day. The participants should have evidence
of excellent scientific performance and a good knowledge
of English (speaking and writing). This also implies the
submission of a 1-2 pages personal statement explaining
the motivation to participate in the course, a 1-2 pages
concept note of a research proposal and completed
application form with signature (see attachment) at the
time of application for the course and the development
of a full research proposal between the training parts 1
and 2. The first part will provide the methods and tools
required for proposal development and writing, including
group work and exercises. After the first part,
participants or teams of participants will be required
to develop a concrete research proposal including a
funding concept and work plan at their home
institutions. The proposals will be presented,
discussed, assessed and fine-tuned during the second
part of the course to be held in Spring, 2011.
Participants will only be invited for the second part if
their proposal complies with quality standards and after
having been successfully assessed by the expert team.
The projects may be submitted to potential donor
organizations by participants and/or their universities.
The costs for participation will be covered by funds
provided by the German Federal Ministry of Economic
Cooperation and Development through DAAD. They include
visa fees, travel costs and accommodation costs
(including meals and coffee breaks) at the workshop
venue, and full coverage of course fees and materials.
All participants organize visa (for Tajik participants
only) and travel (for non Tashkent residents) by their
own means. The cheapest way of travelling must be
selected. Flights will be only paid if considered
necessary. Only economy flights best option, second
class surface for the most direct and economic routing
between the place of origin and the venue can be
reimbursed.
The total number of participants expected is 30
scholars. They include former DAAD and/or Alexander von
Humboldt scholars from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as well as other researchers
who are concretely planning to start or extend an
international research project. The applicants should
come from all fields of science, except medicine. The
seminar will be held in English.

Стипендиальная
программа Института зарубежного и международного
частного права им. Макса Планка, при поддержке фонда
«Фольксваген» для молодых ученых-юристов из стран
Кавказа и Средней Азии для девятимесячного пребывания в
Гамбурге. Цель программы: подготовка публикации на
выбранную по собственному усмотрению тему в области
гражданского или коммерческого права своей страны с
точки зрения сравнительного правоведения и ознакомление
с западным, в частности, немецким правом, а также
предоставление участникам программы возможности для
установления международных контактов и участия в
международной дискуссии.
Срок окончания приема заявлений для второй группы из
трех участников (пребывание с 01.01.2011 по 30.09.2011)

Берлинское лето в Душанбе
Центр немецкого языка Душанбе проводит летом, в дни
летних каникул, летние интенсивные курсы немецкого
языка.
Первый курс пройдет с 26 июля по 13 августа,
следующий курс состоится с 16 августа по 3 сентября.
Занятия будут проводиться каждый день с 9:00 до 15:30, 5 дней в неделю.
На этом курсе вы сможете достичь того уровня знания
немецкого языка, как и на обычном курсе.
Запись на курсы начинается с 1 июля, каждый день с
понедельника по пятницу с 10:00 до 18:00.
Стоимость курсов эквивалентна стоимости обычных курсов.
